Avatars now available in Scene It? Box Office Smash

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Filed under:

With all of the NXE excitement going around, it might have been easy to forget that Avatar support is now available for Scene It? Box Office Smash. It might have been easy to forget, except that we’re totally reminding you about it right now. All you have to do is pop the game in and download the title update. Voila, instant Avatar support. And now, if you’ll excuse us, we’ll just go back to waiting for Avatar support in Left 4 Dead*. The freaky machinima possibilities alone will be worth the wait.

*Avatar support for Left 4 Dead is not in the works and is something we made up (unfortunately).

Halo 3 and NXE: HDD Install Causes Slower Loading Times …

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

From bungie.net (http://www.bungie.net/News/Blog.aspx?mode=news#cid16252 ):
The “New Xbox Experience” was released today and one of the new features allows you to “install” your games to the HDD. While you still have to keep the original disc in the tray, installing to the HDD can make some games perform a little better while also putting a little less wear-and-tear on your DVD drive. However, this isn’t to say that ALL games will see optimizations from being installed. In fact, in the case of Halo 3, the game will actually see increased loading times. Several websites have reported the results of tests to gauge how some games perform after being installed to the HDD for Halo 3 and their tests indicate that in some cases, the load times are significantly longer. Our own internal investigations have yielded similar results. To help explain why this is the case I tapped our uber engineer and Chief Caching Officer, Mat Noguchi, to answer a few questions.
Full Story: bungie.net (http://www.bungie.net/News/Blog.aspx?mode=news#cid16252 )

Capcom’s screenshot reveals Street Fighter HD Remix release date

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Either intentionally or unintentionally, Capcom announced (using a screenshot, no less) that November 26th is the release date for their upcoming XBLA release Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

Yes sir, in their press release regarding the new NXE Street Fighter “branded destination experience”, they included a screenshot that spills the release date beans. The screen grab (seen above) explicitly says that SSFIITHDR will be “Coming Nov 26 to Xbox LIVE Arcade” … pretty cut and dry, eh?

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

From the XNA Team Blog (http://blogs.msdn.com/xna/archive/2008/11/19/xbox-live-community-games-is-open-for-business.aspx ):
Hopefully you’ve managed to upgrade yourself to the New Xbox Experience (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/nxe/ ) already! Some people are reporting having trouble logging on to Xbox.com (http://www.xbox.com/ ) to sign the new Terms of Use. If that includes you, try signing this through your Xbox 360 console instead. That is probably your quickest and easiest route back to Premium Creators Club (http://creators.xna.com/ ) membership status. We’ve also got a new area just for Xbox LIVE Community Games over on the Xbox.com forums (http://forums.xbox.com/default.aspx?ForumGroupID=36 ). This will be where we can send those earnest voices that don’t necessarily want to make a game, but simply want to offer their opinions on the games created. Each Community Game will have its own thread created once it is available through Marketplace. On Creators Club we’ve opened up the last piece of the site to the Creators — the “My Business (https://profile.xna.com/en-US/mybusiness.aspx )” portion of your profile is now live. If you’re selling a Community Game or plan to sell one you need to give us your information there so we know where to send the check! This is a pretty incredible day for all of us. We’ve managed to do something that no one has really done before. We’ve opened up the console and given independent game developers a chance to sell their work to the millions of Xbox LIVE gamers. Our creators have submitted more than 30 different games (http://catalog.xna.com/en-US/gamescatalog.aspx ) that you can download now through the Community Games channel (http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/catalog.aspx?d=7 ) on the New Xbox Experience. Each game has something incredible to offer and speaks to the potential that waits beyond today. We really can’t wait to see what happens next!
Armored Core for Answer (Review)

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Confusing title, but not as baffling a game. This feels very familiar to what’s gone before it. In fact, if you’ve got last year’s Armored Core 4 you’d be mistaken for thinking you’d put the wrong disc in your system. The only differences are the new missions, improved customization and the inclusion of online co-op play. …

Kids in the Hall LOVE Portal (The Orange Box)

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Classic Canadian comic troupe Kids in the Hall clearly think Portal is the funniest thing in the world. It doesn’t look like they make it too far into the game, but if they react like this to the first box-on-a-button puzzle, I can only imagine how crazy they would go for the actual game.
