PSP ObjLoader - Image 1

Spimort’s got a treat for you all. He’s just released the source code for his ObjLoader (3D model) homebrew app. Although this release is not as in-depth as it could have been, he says he thinks it’s a good start.

He’ll also try and continue to optimize it. We’ve also got screenshots to impress you with, in case you want to see it first before believing. You can go check it out via the download link below.

PSP Homebrew - DC 7 Mod 4.01 to 5.00 M33 UPDATE

DC 7 Mod 4.01 to 5.00 M33 - Image 1 DC 7 Mod 4.01 to 5.00 M33 - Image 2

Originally posted: 10Nov 08, 2:30PM

Looking to get your Despertar del Cementerio v7 (DC 7) Universal Bricker to run the CFW 5.00 M33 installer? Tinman’s provides just that with his DC 7 mod.

According to Tinman, it does not change DC 7, and it uses the same files so there’s minimal chance of messing anything up. It only adds a second menu to run the 5.00 M33 installer. You can also take screenshots in the 4.01 version of DC 7 by pressing the note key. He also mentioned that you will need the 5.00 SCE updater in the ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/ folder. Enjoy.

UPDATE

tinman’s sent us an email informing us that the directory source on the original link was messed up. The said error had the mod not loading. We have updated the new link, which you can get below, and in it is the new readme so be sure to check that out.

But just in case, we’re quoting tinman’s notes here:

I used this method for a DC based 5.00 M33-3 because, it does not change DC 7, everything works, and uses the same files. (Just renamed one) I only added the 2nd menu which simply runs Alex’s 5.00 M33-3 installer just like you would from the XMB.

You will need the 5.00 SCE updater in the ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/ folder. You can also take screenshots in the 4.01 version of DC 7 only, by pressing the note key. Update: The directory structure got messed up, This is the proper structure. I’m very sorry for the mix up. Don’t not worry the error will not effect DC 7. Just copy MS_ROOT to your MS.

A few tips: 1: Download the 5.00 EBOOT.PBP, rename it 500.PBP, and copy it into the UPDATE folder just like a M33 update. 2: Do not perform any NAND operations under the 5.00 menu, it should work, but I do not have a Slim at this time to fully test this.

PSP Homebrew - GPSP Mod v07/11/2008

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

GBA - Image 1 We’ve got another update for the GBA emulator for the PSP from its unknown coder with the release of the GPSP Mod v07/11/2008. For this release, it’s mostly concerned with bugfixes to increase compatibility with games such as vrally 3 and others.

The EBOOT.PBP is now included in the zip file, but do note that this is only for CFW M33. Also the PSP_LARGE_MEMORY option ha been enabled. The dev also notes the identified problems below, although it varies from every situation so just replace it accordingly.
Regular Edition

  1. M33 to use extended memory to run the applications you use, 32M to load the Lomb And crashes. (4M second half of the region can not be used?) If used on 2.IR Shell, in a road crash Lomb. The PSP-2000 expansion in the region are using the memory, because it can not be used.

M33 Version

  1. Extended memory at once M33 to run applications that use the M33 after the extended memory without specifying We can use. So, does not support the application may cause problems. The cause of the above 1.
  2. At the same time the use of plug-ins and crashes. (PspStates Experiment, MacroFire, aute mute, etc.)

The problems seem to not occur on the PSP-1000. Make sure to read the readme for more details.

PSP/DS Homebrew - Powder Release 108: Safe Walk ability added

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Powder Release 108 - Image 1Jeff Lait has given us a double treat today by releasing his Powder Release 108 for both the DS and the PSP. We know, it’s been a while since he’s updated this brew, but that is not to say that he was working on a “huge secret code”, simply, he was just busy with other stuff.

Now, this release provides for a good number of bugfixes, most important of which is the Safe Walk ability. As Jeff explains, this lets

…non-DS users have the ability to avoid accidentally attacking kiwis when they go careening through the hallways. The intent is you can bind it to,say [L], and then hold that when you want to move safely. If you want [L] to attack, you can change the global option. SDL users may use the ctrl key. Unless they are using vi-keys in which case I’m afraid they are out of luck for now. I can only hope those players believe that Safe Walk is for weaklings.

Here’s the full changelog for Powder Release 108:

  • The mouse will work again for the onscreen keyboard in SDL builds. (Ilya, Teun Peelen)
  • Description when wearing necro dress code spells servant right. (David Damerell, Andreas Bohm)
  • Vacuum correctly spelled in death message. (David Damerell)
  • “Click on your self to search” rather than Clicking. (Narius Varigor)
  • Starting as cultist will immediately tell you ><0 V ’s whim. (hotpoo)
  • Loading a save game worshiping ><0 V will likewise report the whim.
  • Zapping a hostile wand of create monster will have a chance of the creature turning on you. (hotpoo)
  • New boon from gods: hostile creatures surrounding you can be smitten. (Indirectly Ambvai)
  • Earth hammers can be forged into artifact earth hammers with the proper setup. (David Damerell)
  • Level up hitpoints and magic points are now 2d2 1 rather than 1d4 1, giving a tighter distribution and slight boost to the average. (Teun Peelen)
  • Earth hammers have an encyclopedia entry. (David Damerell)
  • When you can move in diagonals you can use the diagonals of the numberpad. (Andreas Bohm)
  • There is now a SafeWalk mode which stops you from attacking when walking about. You can toggle this by pressing Ctrl when using the arrow keys or binding the Safe Walk command to a button in GBA mode. (Andreas Bohm)
  • The delete key works the same as the backspace key, a useful feature on Macs whose keyboards lack a backspace. (Roger Bolton)
  • Wishing for a level teleport no longer uses atoi() so hopefully works on gpsphone. (Roger Bolton)
  • We now promote room flags to map flags when loading. This way loading the game on the final levels will not turn the levels into floor-diggable and hence suddenly create holes to short-circuit the levels. (Ambvai, debugged by Andreas Bohm)
  • A case where you could achieve barbarian dress code despite not wearing armour is fixed. (Malte Helmert)
  • You now gain piety for the barbarian and necro dress codes. (Malte Helmert)
  • You can no longer move diagonally if both orthogonal directions are blocked by walls.
  • Spells cast when you have the can dig intrinsic will no longer disintegrate earth elementals. (SparroHawc)

By the way, Jeff also would like to note that save games are never preserved between versions, although the highscore is saved. Please wait until your current character dies before upgrading.

PSP Homebrew - FBA lbicelyne 1107 sega V11p3 DEMO

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Sega collection - Image 1lbicelyne’s got a demo for you guys to check out. It’s his FBA lbicelyne 1107 sega V11p3 DEMO homebrew for the PSP. This version’s updated and so can now support 222 games in total. That’s a lot of games to choose from!

The whole list is actually contained in the readme, but a quick glance at it reveals that you can play Shinobi and Sonic Boom among other things. Interestingly enough, there’s even a Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker title here.

Anyhow, feedback so far says that it’s actually good, although playability’s still low because of the slow speed. Then again, this is just a demo release yet anyway, so we’re sure there’ll be more improvements to come later on.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated when they do arrive. In the meantime, why don’t you try out the demo first?

PSP Homebrew - PSPSSH: SSH2 v.1.2.0: now with multi-session support

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

PSPSSH: SSH2 v1.2.0 - Image 1zx-81’s back with his PSPSSH program, now bringing the version up to 1.2.0. In case you’re not familiar wit this homebrew program, it’s a small SSH2 Server and Client running on a variety of POSIX-based platforms, and was originally developed by Matt Johnston.

Now, this ssh client allows you to have remote access to your PC, granted that your SSH server is installed, of course. After which you can enter commands and run scripts as if you were directly in front of your PC.

Here’s what’s new in SSH v1.2.0:

  • Multi-session support ! (No need to restart pspssh to connect to another server)
  • Add a built-in editor to edit commands & words list (command.txt and word.txt files)
  • Add eboot music from NeXuS ( see http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/nexus )
  • Finally fix issue with “Home -> Exit” !
  • Tested on firmware 5.0 M33
  • Bug fix in battery level display

Also, do note that this software is also useful for Linux users who might want to connect to ehir PC/server from anywhere using a wifi connection. And then, you can read your mail using text based tool such as pine, elm or mutt, run text irc client, watch log files, edit configuration files, restart services etc.

If you want to know how to use it, then you’ll have to open the Readme. zx-81’s placed everything there. You can also head to our forums to join in on the discussion; link is below.

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Laser Invaders screenshot - Image 1Art’s got another update for his Laser Invader project, now putting it nicely to version 5. For this version, he’s added in another moving starfield. However, it’s been removed from the screenshot cos he says it just looks like a bunch of dots anyway.

So, what’s new here is that he’s finally implemented the Intrafont library, on top of all the previous updates for this game. You can get the new version below, as well as join in on the discussion at our forums. Enjoy!

A simple guide to help you party in the Ad-Hoc Party

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Ad-Hoc Party - Image 1

Want to get in on the Party but can’t read Japanese? Here’s a useful guide from PSP Hyper. It has all you’ll need to get some Ad-Hoc partying into your PSP. Now you can play Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G without staring blankly into your screen.

You will need (that’s quite a list, though):

  • PS3 and PSP on their latest firmware
  • PS3 is Wi-Fi ready (20GB owners won’t get a piece of the action)
  • PS3 is connected to the internet
  • A Japanese PSN account

Here’s what to do:

  • Download the application from the Japanese PSN (5MB)
  • Install and launch it from the Game menu
  • Click on the adhoc button (it’s the third button), and it’ll start checking for a PSP
  • Launch Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G and enter the Online Guild Hall (or the ad-hoc lobby of other games that might support the feature)
  • Your PSP system name should be on your PS3 screen in a bit
  • Exit adhoc (with the X button), click on “Start” (the first button) and you’ll see different Worlds and lobbies. L1/R1 picks to pick a World, and the left stick to pick a lobby.
  • Note that red tabs mean they’re full, blue ones are empty
  • Enter a lobby with the O button, you can view the next lobby with the directional buttons
  • In the lobby move, more your cursor to a room (house icon) or player and click with the O button to view their details
  • To enter a room, click on “Enter” (the second button on the pop-up), and you should be able to see other players in the room. A few seconds later, they’ll be in the lobby of the game.
  • You may wait until four players have joined the room or you can start a quest with the available players
  • If you are having trouble finding rooms, simply create one by pointing the cursor to your name - a pop-up appears, giving you the option to either change your username or create a room. Make one then wait for people to join.

Now that that’s been taken care of, time to play. See you at the Party.
